As I have shared many a times, I have a love hate relationship with running. However, as the weather warms up, I can no longer excuse myself from getting back to the feet hitting the pavement. To help with the encouragement, I found a race for the huzband and I to run together this spring. It’ll be my first race of the season and being early, my plan is for it not to be the last either. It is a 10K, nothing excruciating but enough of a distance to get my training for the season jump started. (10K = 6.2 miles) And because it is only 7 weeks away, there is no room for me to skip on any runs! So I just daily chant to myself “7 weeks, only 7 weeks” as I lace up my sneakers.
Being that it is a new running season, I decided to refresh my running play list with all new songs. Each season I change-up what I listen to for motivation and this season is no different. As well, I’m reaching outside of what I normally listen to to include a variety of music. So far these are the songs on my “run” playlist.
How did I pull together this somewhat eclectic mix? I’m glad you asked. Inspiration can come from anywhere and a few of these songs came out of my winter spin classes; songs like The Boxer (The Chemical Brothers), Rolling in the Deep (Adele) and Just Can’t Get Enough (The Black Eyed Peas) whose deep beat helped me push on. I pulled out an oldie but goodie, Jumper that is full of feel good memories; I may have to incorporate a bit more from Third Eye Blind. The huzband laughed at me when he heard me play Lambada, which according to him is not a very clean song. If you don’t know the song, it’s a Brazilian song I believe. There’s just something about the music in that song that takes my mind off of the pain of running! =)
The only problem with my playlist is it only has six songs. Right now that isn’t so much of a problem because my longest run is 45 minutes and I don’t mind the playlist looping a few times. However, I know I will need to add some more to it so that when I am running for more than an hour, I won’t get sick and tired of the few songs I have.
So here is a question for you, do you have any good suggestions for my “run” playlist? Perhaps there is a song out there that gets your toes a tappin’, your booty a shakin’ or your feet to running! What is that one song you love to run, bike, zumba, pump iron or whatever your exercise of choice is, what is THE SONG for you? I am ready and willing to incorporate all suggestions and give them a run!! So please, suggest away! I’d love to hear what your go to song is when you are exercising!
Love a good playlist! Ok…for running I would suggest:
1. “Wavin’ Flag” by K’naan, will.i.am, and David Guetta (great family dance song)
2. “Ice Melts” by Matt & Kim
3. “NY2LA” by Press Play
4. “Under Pressure” by David Bowie and Queen
5. “Dynamite” by Taio Cruz (hands down the best family dance song)
Those are my suggestions! Now let the training begin! 🙂
I know I’m very late with this, but here are my contributions to a great running mix (I’m slow though, so I don’t know if you should trust me…)
* Death metal. Not a lot, just a couple songs here and there from Rob Zombie or White Zombie or anything Zombie.
* “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen (I dare you to stop running when Freddie sings that he’s traveling at the speed of light!)
* “Daylight” by Matt & Kim It’s happy.
* “We Win” by DC*B (one of the few praise songs I can run to…)
