Earlier this week I had a bit of free time where I found myself wondering what I could do. I grabbed this opportunity to take a little trip to a local yarn shop. I know that I could have run to a big name craft store like Michael’s or Joann’s, however I have a friend on Facebook that is a big time knitter/crochetter/making amazing things with string who had made a comment about supporting local yarn shops. (P.S. go check out her etsy store: East End Home Arts.) I asked her where some were and picked the closest one to me, which was about 20-ish minutes away. I’m glad I did because once inside, I was woo-ed by all the beautiful colors.
So what did I pick out for my very first yarn, my practice piece? I went with the tried and true: green. I figure working with my favorite color should make it all that much more enjoyable, right? My first attempt at crocheting did not go to bad, well enough that I think I’ll keep going!
Have you learned anything new today?
Granny tried to teach me to crochet once. I had all the needed items. She showed me and then I tried. I failed. She showed me again. I failed, again. She looked at me and said, “Ashley, now this is common sense and you can’t do it. I thought for sure you’d be able to do this.” Nope. I may still have the stuff in the garage. If I find it, I’ll send it your way.
I am so impressed! I am thinking about attending a local intro to crocet class. The name of the group is “The Happy Hookers” 🙂 Way to go checking off a New Year’s Goal!
