october

Can you believe that it is October?  That 3/4 of the year is already over?  That Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner?  Before we know it, it will be 2011.  I just got used to 2010.  [It’s this whole 20 number that is throwing me off.]

I feel like October marks the beginning of fall.  September is just a taste with some cool days, some warm days.  Yet once we hit October, we are in full-blown leaf turning days!  It’s time to pull out the fall decorations, the acorns, squash and other funny shaped vegetables.  The aroma of pumpkin can be found in pies, cheesecake, coffee and just about anything your heart desires.  Harvest time is here.  Families can go apple picking or attend weekend harvest festivals where you feed animals, enjoy hay rides, corn mazes and snuggle together around a bon fire sipping on spiced cinnamon apple cider.  mmmm……Don’t forget to pick out your pumpkin, whether you carve funny faces or roast pumpkin seeds in your oven!   You can see all around the joy and warmth of such a wonderful month.  Let me not forget to mention Oktoberfest!  Though I have yet to attend one, it just is another element of a wonderful month.

I have always been a big fan of fall, from the weather to the festivities.  Yet, I was given the greatest reason to love October almost 3 years ago: my daughter.

Nothing could make this month more special than the gift I received the day she was born!

I am so thankful for the opportunity to be her mother.  There are days I seriously fail!  Yet regardless, she loves me.  And I love her.

She is part of the reason I daily seek God, I daily desire to grow as a wife, a mother, a woman!  She is part of the reason I strive to be healthier.  I want to show her what true womanhood is, to be strong, honest, real, to be myself, a daughter of God, to be loving, compassionate, adventurous, to be unafraid, to be wise, caring and so much more.  To stand up to what is wrong and do it with tenderness.  I have been entrusted with such a precious gift and such a big responsibility.

I pray God guides me to be the best I can be.  I pray that I am obedient and listen to what He says.

  1. I was reading your blog out loud to Hailey for the first time and was so choked up with tears I could barely finish. You are an amazing writer “RachelTalks2U?” and your sweet reflection on the season, on being a wonderful wife, mother, person is right on. You are an amazing woman who holds all of these qualities around you like stitching on a cool Indian dress. Your daughter is not too shabby either 😉 We love her SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much!!! For some reason I am not finding Velda’s B-day on my google calendar refresh my memory? I already have a gift for her waiting but not sure if I should mail or if you are coming to town for her B-day? Thanks:)
